Meet Hive, the ergonomic bee smoker for the new generation. Hive focuses on the overlooked problems of traditional bee smokers in order to create a safer and easier-to-use product for beginner beekeepers.
With the rising tide of urbanization, we set out to solve the problems that accompany urban beekeeping. We set out on a trip in search of a local beekeeper in order to experience all the joys and concerns firsthand.
Research
Ideation
With the ideation phase underway, the main concerns that arose from traditional bee smokers were the fact that it's time-consuming, dangerous, and lacked user-friendliness.
Prototyping
Multiple iterations of the design were created using different materials such as 10lb foam, wood, styrene. Once the mechanical aspects and aesthetics were refined, the final functional model was ready to test.
Final
Hive is the most ergonomic bee smoker yet. With a modular design and quick refill system, it saves users precious time so they can tend to what's important, the honey!
How?
The lower section is filled with a long-lasting dry fuel cartridge and the upper section is filled with a wet fuel cartridge which provides cool smoke in order to not harm the bees.
